5 stars Meshuggah have truly blown away many barriers in being technical in metal. Meshuggah is a minimalist-metal polyrhythmic power beast. The instrumentation within this album makes Meshuggah extremely distinct throughout the legions of metal bands that exist. The album takes on an angry and concise tone throughout, with lyrics about destroying organisms and replacing them with machines to improve, hence the name. The album is actually accessible on a lot of fronts, a typical thrash-metal fan would love this album, a technical listener will love the overlapping signatures and chaotic patterns, and anyone else would love how this is combined. The band seems to take a superhuman tone with these arrangements, and an intelligent group, on how they can turn these into solid songs. An extremely creative and bold step, not to mention a huge growth within a band, make this album a masterpiece. Extremely cool.
