5 stars Brain Salad Surgery an essential Prog Rock album. I think any Prog Rock fan that says it's overblown and too progressive and over the top shouldn't listen to Prog Rock. In my opinion it's basically perfect. Maybe not the greatest Prog Album ever mainly because I think ELP is better and a lot of the Peter Gabriel Genesis stuff is as good if not better. Still it is a masterpiece with only 1 small flaw which I don't think changes the fact that it's almost perfect. That one flaw in my opinion because I'm sure some love it is Benny the Bouncer. It just doesn't work for me but other then that there's nothing bad. It's the first ELP album I heard way back when and it had me sold. In about 2 days I bought their first 5 cds. Stupendious, I had heard of ELP but had no interest. My brother started getting into Genesis and I liked them and had quite a few albums and because of that I suppose it opened my eyes to new Prog rock like ELP. I wanted ELP but this was all they had and boy am I glad. I know I said I like ELP better but I feel this was needed for me as an introduction into ELP. I don't understand how have the bad reviews say too strong and the other half say too weak. If you think Brain Salad Surgery is weak I think you need to have your head examined. 5 stars a true Prog masterpiece.
