3 stars 2001's CURSE OF THE HIDDEN MIRROR is the last release by Blue Oyster Cult. Erik Bloom, Buck Dharma, and Alan Lanier are left from previous BOC lineups, and they produce a pretty solid album with a few good tunes. Among the best songs on this disc are "Dance on Stilts", "Pocket", "Stone of Love", and thew wonderful bluesy "Out of the Darkness". However, that is only 4 out of the total 11 tracks on CURSE. The rest are more typical hard rock ala Erik Bloom with lyrics about SciFi Gods, Loose Women, and Prison Revenge. Nothing spectacular. Blue Oyster has never made a perfect album, although a few came close (SPECTRES, FIRE OF UNKNOWN ORIGIN), and CURSE OF THE HIDDEN MIRROR is typical of the BOC pattern- some great tracks interspersed with some filler. No prog here, but none really expected. 3 stars.
