3 stars Justinsane is a short album (22 minutes) that is Phrozenlight having "just fun", which lead me to believe that this album would be of low and extremely uninteresting quality. As it turns out, Justinsane actually seems like a great evolution from the past few albums.

Only one track, "Weirdo", makes up the album's runtime. It's mostly dominated by the airy jet- engine ambience that I despise so much, but also a dominant synthesized cello arrangement. The cello arrangement is very minimalistic, but is pretty enough and played at a mid-pace that really makes this album more lively than others by Phrozenlight. The soft synth-cello and harsh jet-engine drone contrast each other in a way that is actually decently pleasant to listen to, similar to the way that some harsh death metal includes beautifully sung vocals. Frequent sequenced electronic sounds make their way through the mix, adding an extra bit of texture and feel to this windy and sombre atmosphere of nothing in particular. The inability for Justinsane to establish any kind of atmospheric setting or convincing emotion is one of the low points of this album, as well as the lack of progression in the track (although this track does progress slightly more than previous albums).

Justinsane isn't a bad experimental project for Phrozenlight, and hopefully this experimentation will keep up and result in better albums in the future. If work like this does continue, then change for the better seems inevitable. This album kicks-off Phrozenlight's 2007 recording season on a good start.
