3 stars Oh man...

As much as I love Floyd, I hate this album. It's the middle ground, right between Barrety Goodness and THE REAL FLOYD. Some tracks are good, many bad. The album cover is good, at least.

Let there be more light: It's ok, but not that good. You can hear underlying Floydian elements that would be found later. The sound comes off as sort of Arabian Nights, don't ask me why. Gilmour has some guitar that sounds distinctly like him.

Remeber a Day: Well, it's a song that was compltely written by Wright. I love wright, i love his keyboarding, and the song's okay. The two songs in this by Wright give me the eery feeling he was in love with his sister! And not in the proper way! Wright makes some Syd-ish mouth noises.

Set the controls for the heart of the sun: One of Roger's song where he's like "I'm gonna make a long, boring song and you have to sit through it, damn it!" A similiar unvarying song can be found on Wish You Were Here, Welcome to the Machine. I can sit through it, but its sort of boring. Apparently he ripped off the lyrics from a fortune cookie.

Corporal Clegg: I like this one quite a bit. It's one of my favourites on the album. The Corporal thinks he's won a war but he's actually insane. The kazoo works well.

A Saucerful of Secrets: What is this? A long song that points to later long masterpeices but unfortunatley is even worse than Interstellar Overdrive. I can listen to it from time to time, mostly because the drum loop from Mason is sort of cool. But please guys, stop pulling these ridiculous songs from your arses and start getting to the real Floyd!

See-saw: Crap. I like the other Wright song better. But it's alright I guess.

Jugband Blues: Barret's final song comes off as very sad because he will soon fade into schizophrenia and dementia. His last exclamation point in a sad story of a sad ending. One part sounds a lot like a part of Atom Heart Mother.

So, if you are a big Floyd fan like me, by all means buy this. It's underwhelming but listenable. If, however, you are not a Floyd fan directly but want to try out their many and great albums start with something like Dark Side of the Moon and see if you like it. Continue from there.
