4 stars SANTANA's best 80's album, for sure!

After the release of a serie of excellent album's at the early 70's, SANTANA enters the 80's, having a dissapointing heritage of 2 albums, that are full of lack of fresh ideas. The band was starting to become predictable and sometimes boring. But ''Zebop!'' came to rerise the band's talent.

Surely, this album presents many covers of famous pieces, all performed with the SANTANA's style, that really blows everything away. Excellent performance, tones of energy and a perferct line-up, made of really talented musicians. The outstanding and often breath-taking voice of Alex Ligertwood is the new element here, dressing beautifully all the album's tracks. Useless to talk about the guaranteed trio of Richard Baker (keys), Graham Lear (drums) and Mike Dargen (bass). Carlo's solos are some of his best ever recorded, really technical and perfectly performed. Tracks like, ''Changes (by Cat Stevens), ''Sensitive Kind'' (by J.J. Cale), ''Over and Over'' (by Rick Meyers) and I Love You Much Too Much (by A. Olshanetsky, D. Raye & C. Towber) are the highlights, followed by the band's excellent compositions like, ''E Papa Re'', ''Brightest Star'', ''Searchin'', ''Tales of Kilimanjaro'' and ''Hannibal''. All awesome tracks, really worth-listening.

The band reborns with a marvellous piece of art, just when the 80's begin. SANTANA's style is well kept, but now dressed with this new, fresh air of this era. The live shows that follow the album's release, prove the excellent conidtion of the band's creativity and performance. A far worth listening album, regarded with a perfect production from Bill Graham, Carlos Santana and Keith Olsen.
