2 stars This joke on the water is a silly record that belongs alongside other unfortunate dreck-fests such as Kiss Live, Rare Earth Live, and Grand Funk Live, where long stage versions of oh- too-familiar underground late-night FM radio time-fillers occupied the over-active hallucinigenic sonic imaginations of drug-addled weekend listeners with twenty minute jams on songs that should last no longer than three minutes, content-wise. (just like that sentence) The Dj's would frollic during these long drawn-out jams, probably with the sound turned down. Deep Purple grinds and wails its way through a plethora of stolen licks and lumbering attacks with muscular if not uncoordinated non-rythmic hammer blows. What they lack in ability they sure make up for with volume...sorta like usin' an RPG on a slug. Harsh, pedantic, and pandering to ears with simple needs, this record will stand the test of time, but as a joke to be appreciated only by mocking air-guitarists of the future.
