3 stars Maybe not the best album to start with through my journey with Jefferson Airplane.

I am already a fan of Jefferson Starship's great Red Octopus album. Hence, I am gravitating towards Jefferson Airplane. Hence this album and this review.

Bark contains a lot of influences. Folk music in the vein of Magna Carta for example. Several times during the listening sessions, I thought I was listening to Magna Carta. Other influences are west coast rock and space rock. Grace Slick's vocals is pretty much their signature and sets them apart from other bands. Unfortunate, there is not enough of her vocals here. The instruments are electric guitars, drums, bass and some tangents. The usual stuff.

The songs are good and I have no gripes with them. I do have some gripes with their country and folk rock affections on this album. These are the worst songs here. But a song like War Movie lifts this album up to a weak average score. Good, but I hope for something better from the other albums I have purchased.

3 stars (barely)
