5 stars We went back to 1969?

Astra is a promising band of psychedelic rock / progressive coming of San Diego, California (which is not exactly a breeding ground for the progressive rock) and it certainly surprised the prog community with his debut album, "The Weirding".

It's amazing how this album sounds so retro. In fact, as some reviewers have pointed out, the sound of "The weirding" is purposely so, as if the musicians wanted to move to the late 60th and early 70th.

this becomes even more obvious in the first two songs, "The rising of black sun" and "The Weirding". The retro sound is lost in the next few songs, but one thing is undeniable to say, this is psychedelic album from start to finish. And man, it is hard not to like it after tons of guitars, mellotrons, synthesizers, flutes and strong battery that is poured into your ears in these 78 minutes long!

5 stars. A masterpiece of modern progressive rock, which certainly deserves to be more appreciated!
