4 stars This is the most under-rated album in DT's catalog. This is a great album in all respects. I am a bigger fan of Awake, 6DOIT, SFAM, and Images, but that's about it. I feel it is on par with Octavarium and better than most of their recent releases since Octavarium.

The thing that makes this album great is it's diversity in style, sound scape, creativity, production, and all around good song writing. Sure some songs are more "commercial" or shorter winded, but honestly I love those songs for what they are. But there are also the epic "Trial of Tears" penned by Myung, there's also " Lines in the Sand", "Hells Kitchen" just to name some of the more proggy and heavyweights on the album.

The ballads on this song are some of the best as well, "Peruvian Skies", "Anna Lee", and "Hallow Years" have stood the test of time.

There are alot of heavy rocking tunes on hear for the metal heads who love this band.

I don't get why this album is talked down on so much. I would take another album like this over what they've been doing on recent albums where flashy playing and heavy riffing has drowned out much of what use to make this band so spectacular.

On this record they were actually focused on the song writing and being creative in the production and experimenting with different styles and atmospheres. I give this a solid 4.25 stars!
