3 stars Layra is a new band to me. I did interview them some weeks ago. See interview.

This is the second album from Layra. A band who claims their music is a blend of Genesis and Dream Theater. I agree on the latter one, but not the first one. At least; not the classic Genesis before Phil Collins took over the reins. But Layra does sounds like a mix of Dream Theater and a British neo-prog outfit though. Magenta is a good reference. The superb, very melodic Italian vocals also sets Layra a part a bit. The same also goes for the use of guitar harmonies instead of relying only on guitar riffs.

This album has a contemporary sound. The music is pretty commercial and melodic. The songs are not that great though. But this is still a very interesting album from a band which have the potential to break out and become a big commercial success. This is a good album from a good band.
