5 stars In 1984 I was just a kid, but I still remember clearly that at the time there was a great deal of curiosity and expectation regarding the release of this album; Metallica had indeed taken the world of metal by surprise the year before with their debut album, surely a little bit raw and not very mature but from which you could clearly perceive the immense potential of the band. "Ride the Lightning" certainly didn't betray all those expectations and still now remains one of the biggest monuments in metal history. "For Whom the Bell Tolls", the ballad "Fade to Black", "Creeping Death", the explosive, devastating "Fight Fire with Fire" are absolute classics of the genre and a special mention goes of course to the epic and progressive "The Call of Ktulu", that I liked so much to play on my piano! Not an absolute masterwork like their following album, "Master of Puppets", but nevertheless this album still nowadays remains a must-have.
