"Demons and Wizards" is one of my favourite Uriah Heep albums. "The Wizard" is the band's
biggest all time anthem. It sets the mood and rhythm for the entire album, a mixture of simple
acoustic and rock guitar riffs along with those classic soaring vocals. "Easy Livin' is a rocker
and another short, concise piece. However, the lengthly epic art rockers "Circle of
Hands", "Paradise" and "The Spell" solidified their reputation as progressive rock innovators.
Great variety of tracks here and the guitar and keyboard solos are very inventive. Although
Uriah Heep had set the ground work for their signature sound on albums such as their first
and the generally underrated "Look at Yourself", "Demons and Wizards" towers above it's
predecessors in many ways. They earned the credit as one of the top rock bands of the 70's
along with the likes of Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Thin Lizzy etc. Four and a
half stars!
