ACQUIRING THE TASTE

Not only is this album much better than even most GG fans would claim, it is one of the most best examples of the progression of a band's music. GG is less interested in any "cohesion" than in stupidly happy experimentation. And that is exactly what they do here: within the loose "song structure," they spend the entire album experimenting with sounds, ideas, rhythms, atmospheres, etc. In this regard, Acquiring the Taste is a perfect "stepping stone" between their first eponymous album and Three Friends, on which they first start to develop a truly cohesive sound, and a "direction."
