THE POWER AND THE GLORY

It's very hard to explain how good this album is without listening to it. For me it is the height of a combination of all the aspects of music. It is a clever balance of most types of music, rock, blues, jazz, classical etc. but each type is GENTLE GIANTs interpretation of this type of music, which makes it better. It seems there is not one part of this album which didn't have a huge amount of effort and skill put in to it, from start to finish it's a fantastic display of musical genius and precision. I've been listening to this album now for a year or two, and I listen to it alot and I still haven't listened to everything this album has to offer, it sounds slightly different everytime I concentrate on it, just showing how extremely detailed and complex this album is, as with most gentle giant albums. The production on the album only makes things even better, every instrument has clarity and a really good balance on volume, you can hear everything that is being played, which is very important to me. This band is my most influencial band, this music teaches me things which I never fully understood about music before, and alot of the lyrics are insightful and deep, they describe things which aren't easy to express with words. Every aspect of this band I love except the fact they started making music that wasn't up to their standard, after their definitive "Interview" album, which is a great shame to me. If you are open minded and not scared of something completely different from what is seen as "normal", give this band a good chance listen to their albums with alot of concentration, it rewards you the more you listen to it.
