4 stars Daphne is the band led by Daphne Blake, of the Scooby-Doo mystery solving gang, recording during the frequent down time needed to repair the Mystery Machine.

Ok, that's not true. But since there is not much information on this group I can make up their history, can't I?

In reality, this is a gem of an album, that blends styles from many of the seventies masters into something unique. I hear hints of Genesis, Emerson Lake & Palmer, Jethro Tull, Gentle Giant, and even some Frank Zappa in their music.

The opening track, the seventeen minute Nascita is a great launching point. This multi-part epic is like a tour through the above mentioned artists, with some weirdness thrown in.

The band has some tounge in cheek moments, especially in Spaghetti e Insalatina, that sound like a blend of Queen and a Keith Emerson Honky Tonk. It's a fun little throwaway.

But don't throw away this album if you find it.
