3 stars A diabolic hallucination

Futuristic avant-garde prog, diabolic hallucinations or bad dreams.

Frantic noise , distinctive Volta like Omar guitars, experimental, annoying, beautiful, confusing, avant-prog. Was some of the first words that came to mind when I was thinking about how to review this album.

All those thing are what I find here, with glimpses of the Mars Volta melody creation, but twisted some twists more than most Volta albums. Volta is always walking on the edge of too much of everything, this is walking some steps outside the borderline. Bits and pieces of any kind of sound source, seem to be thrown in without any clear direction.

A very experimental album, can only be recommended for those interested in music, very far away from the beaten track, personally I usually like these kind of experiments, and I do find some great moments in here, but in this case, it leaves me a bit cold at times. I hear too much noise pollution, more than needed, and even though, the pieces sometimes get close to something very interesting, too often they don't get there.

The signature track, clocking at 11+ min. Is the last on the album: Las Lagrimas De Arakuine. This is my absolute favorite track, wonderful drumming from Pridgen keeps it together, Juan beating the crap out of the bass, Omars guitars, spiced with various syntz sounds coming and going. The track has got a space rock feel.

An album hard to get in to, but with some 4 star potentials for those interested in extreme experimental music. Just manage to get 3 star album from me ,and must be a 1 star album for those mainly interested in melodic rock music.

NB: I was very close to go 2 stars, only the great pleasure I get from the last track, lured me up to the 3 star mark. If I had the choice it would be 2,5.
