3 stars Okay, now this is unexpected. Why is drone doom metal on a progressive rock site? I guess for the same reason Orthrelm's OV is. It's a sort of all inclusive decision making thing I guess. But anyway, disregard this introductory ponder, onto the music. Progressively, this seems rather absent. Sure, if you're into prog, huge song lengths really can be seen as a risky (or admirable) venture. Here, the average prog fan isn't going to find much of interest. It's basically funeral doom, slow, heavy and transgressive. And grim. You could probably gather that from the cover art. But seeing as I don't mind this genre of music much, it's not actually a bad combination. How it fits in progressively is a bit beyond me, but in 77 minutes you'd be hoping for some progression right? Well, there is some, but it is abstract, noise or feedback, a mixture of dark texturing that borders on dark ambient. Not that it establishes a bad mood at all, in fact for what it is, it's quite alright. Slow, heavy, plodding and (honestly) a bit boring. Doom isn't renowned for being the most lively of genres anyway. So I guess I'll give it three stars, and warn traditional progressive music lovers away, because you won't find much to enjoy here I suspect, but for those that like funeral/drone doom slow and heavy, as well as partially ambient, this may be the release for you. As for why it's on Progarchives, that's a really good question...
