5 stars To make of a gig a video album is a blazed path to walk down. first, it's necessary to re- arrange the sound. then, (more difficult) harmonize it with images. In Live at Pompei (sorry for the single "i", but I'm Italian and I call it the way I know) all this is not a problem, but a strenght point: sun, sky not "obscured by clouds", together with ruins, ancient mosaics and volcano lava seem to embrace and be embraced by the music, in an fascinating and hyptotizing whole.

In other words the tracklist chosen really fits with the landscape: in an ancient arena, with no audience there would be a lot of "echoes"...and the circle of the amptheatre with Floyd in the meddle...OOPS!Middle, of course, could not seem a space ship when it needs to "set the control to the heart of the sun" that so bright shines? And could we imagine that circular space as a coliseum with a gladiator inside handling an axe, whose name is Eugene? Live at Pompei isn't just a live gig, and either not a P. F. live (although their standard quality is "quite" high), is art within art, a story within History.

Another virtue of this release is the bonus material (I intend all stuff not played by PF at POMPEI): the making of "The dark side of the moon" chiefly, but also ordinary moments and outtakes among members showing they're not martians. Furthermore, I noticed a bittersweet sentence by David: asked to deny the rumors by which they were drug addicted, he answered as he WERE on junkie, with a grinning facial expression, that was a lie...I'm not sure he was pretending...
