CORVUS STONE

For all of you are unfamiliar with me.... I am NOT a professional reviewer of music. Just a humble musician and fan. It would also be unfair to the readers here if I didn't point out that I am very fond of many of the people involved in this project.

Disclaimers aside.

If you haven't had the opportunity to read the story of how this "plan came together" ... I strongly recommend that you do. It should be available at Melodic Revolutions Records as well as a number of other associated sites. I cannot stress this point too much as I feel it is almost as important as the music itself.

Being able to complete such a venture while sharing virtually no studio time is amazing. Social media (while being a bane to society at times) has given musicians a true platform to collaborate in a new way. This aspect of Corvus Stone makes me feel that real music is not only still alive... but catching fire.

Musically speaking: If you do not have the time to really listen to an album of this length in one sitting and more than once...you may not 'get it' at all. From the production quality to the raw talent (artwork definitely included) and to the sense of humor.... there is nothing to compare this project to. I'm sure we can all comment on each song's genre or similarities to other groups; however that is not the point! If you discount a song like jussipussi for example... for being offensive or foolish than that is your choice. I do however hope we can all laugh at ourselves once in awhile. Does anyone remember the Styx album "The Serpent is Rising"? There is a track called "Don't Sit Down On the Plexiglass Toilet" that still makes me laugh so hard I could cry.

Schizophrenic is an interesting way of describing this project; although not likely to be politically correct.

These musicians give it their all. They do it their way or the highway. The collaboration of such diverse styles and preferences is stunning. Improvisation... sometimes... can just be wonderful. I also believe that it would be unwise to try to put Covus Stone into a cubbie hole labeled "prog" or any other sub-genre thereof. This is not a subject for debate... just my humble opinion.

This release is must listen to material! Not must like. Please just come to it with an open mind and really good headphones. I strongly suspect that you will be blown away!

Corvus Stone's next release should be even more spectacular with the rumored addition of a drummer.
