5 stars Before there was Vai, Malmsteen, Moore and Petrucci...........there was Al Dimeola.

All of those guitar virtuosos, and countless others, list Dimeola as a direct influence in their technique and compositional approach. It goes without saying that Elegant Gypsy is one of those influences.

To put it bluntly: This is some of the VERY BEST guitar-centric music EVER recorded. PERIOD. When I say BEST, I don't mean in the top 10 or 20 recordings. I mean to say in the top 5 of all-time! In ANY genre.

If you are a fan of jazz-rock, symphonic prog, neo-prog, classical, or a fan of GREAT guitar music in general, then do yourself a favor and get this album TODAY! Especially if you're a young, aspiring shredder; this CD is a compulsory introduction to "Elegant shredding". Listen to this CD and your playing will be forever changed.

For you keyboardists: You will find on this album some of Jan Hammer's best work. IMO, his work here is much more intense and precise than anything he did with Jeff Beck. His unison playing and comping on Elegant Gypsy is sublime.

This one earns an easy FIVE STARS. An absolute MANDATORY recording that EVERY progger should own. A prog collection would be incomplete without this CD.
