5 stars I haven't heard anything else from Porcupine Tree but this and In Absentia. When I heard In Absentia the first time I recall thinking 'this might well be the best prog rock band in the 21st century'. Now, as I've heard Staircase Infinities I'm certain about that (yeah yeah, they made the album in 1994.. or was it '95? But still). A perfect mix of ambient-like soundscape, great solos and riffing, magnificent synthesizers and The Mellotron... this album has everything that's good in progressive rock! The album kind of resembles the feeling Finnish prog legend Kingston Wall caught on some of their records. Some Pink Floyd influences can also be heard (surprise surprise). Positively an Essential Album!
