4 stars Certainly not a stinker!

This compilation album is available for free download in its entirety on the band's website, complete with front, back and inner sleeve prints. The tracks are lifted from their back catalogue, but being unfamiliar with their work, I cannot comment on whether they represent the best ones or otherwise. What I can say though is that the music is excellent.

There are similarities at times with Porcupine Tree, perhaps even a hint of Hawkwind, but PO90D do very much have their own sound. The two tracks lifted from "Unbranded", which total over 17 minutes, are diverse and extremely well performed. There's some great synthesiser work which Patrick Moraz would have been proud of, and some fine guitar licks too. "Run in rings" could well be by Van Der Graaf Generator, the vocals being especially reminiscent of Peter Hammill.

If I do have a criticism, and a minor one at that, it is in the vocal department. The singing at times could be better. Andy Tillison might have been well advised to use the occasional guest vocalist alongside the other transient players who appear on the various albums.

This album is well worth downloading, and should serve to whet your appetite to explore the music of PO90D further.
