3 stars Obras Cumbres reaches the aim of a compilation, in the way of a summary with the highlights, and also covers all the albums, with 30 years of music, since "El Volantín" to "Arrebol". No one is left out.

Obras Cumbres is a journey through the history of the band, since the songs are in chronological order, but of course, you see the more "commercial" side, or at least the less experimental side, which is the common way in this sort of compilations.

If you are looking for the most played classics, this is the right direction: Todos Juntos, Mira Niñita, La Conquistada, Pregón Para Iluminarse, Sube a Nacer Conmigo Hermano, Mambo de Machaguay, all of them are in here. But if you want to find the real sound of Los Jaivas, you have to go through the studio albums. Just an example: Mamalluca last 15 minutes. Here is just the edited version, something similar to what happens with "In a Gadda da Vida", only the firsts minutes that you usually may hear in the radio.

A journey through the history of the band, where you find out that the core of the music haven't changed so much (as I said, less the experimental side), and the first disc is not clearly better than the second one, as usually happens.

A good album, but lacks in the enough coherency (well, it's a compilation) to be an excellent one: 3 stars.
