4 stars Billy Cobham was a live fusion legend still in early seventies. He played with Miles Davies, in Machavishnu Orchestra, his solo debut is golden classic now. But after few albums, he moved to funk movement, and very soon became almost forgotten by fans.

Last weekend ( Nov. 21,2009) I used rare possibility to see and hear legendary drummer live ( with a bit different line up than on Colors CD - with Billy Cobham band). I was absolutely surprised in what a good form Billy is in his 65, and how great his music still sounds!

It renewed my interest to his newest works. "Colors" is recorded with team of world/jazz musicians, and contains absolutely beautiful jazz fusion, world, blues rock and funk mix. But it is not a funk album, no way! Music is very fresh, very melodic and very different. Even if drums are always around you, music is build with all other instruments: steelpan, nice guitar solos, perfect deep bass and even some brass!

From the very first sounds, music will bring you to acoustic world of afro-caribbean fusion. But almost every song is in different style: few classic jazz fusions with electric guitar soloing, few keybord leading smooth-jazz ballads, more contemporary jazz pieces, even bluesy ones.

You will never be boring with this beautiful album! Perfect return to form and very recommended to all jazz fusion, contemporary jazz or just beautiful music lovers! Strong 4,5, almost 5!
