2 stars Concept album from the the Descamp pair (father and son in this era as opposed to the brother duo in the 70's) but I find it rather tedious and representative of what they had done during the late 80's and early 90's . But believe me , this is still unmistakably Ange stuff , which was never really my cup of tea in studio recording , but Ange is simply more of a stage group. I have seen them twice these last years in Verviers, and they are awesome as Descampp Father is really quite a character and is quite a performer. If you must try one record try Culinaire Lingus - Oh my gawd , just what do you think that one will be about?

2 stars I have had big hopes with the great Ange come-back in 1989 and their very interesting album : "Sêve Qui Peut". Unfortunately, Ange did not continue in the direction of a traditional symphonic rock in-line with their past (and lost ?) grandeur. Their album "Daï Lama" was just another French-rock album (better than their mediocre eighties production though).

Even if the family circle remains intact in terms of the amount of persons involved in the project, an earthquake has taken place in the sense that instead of Francis Décamp (a founding member), and brother of Francis, we'll get Tristan on the keys. He is the son of Francis.

We were heading the turn of the century while Ange released "La Voiture À Eau" and this time, the most obvious influence is neo- prog and jazz-rock. Ange playing this almost hard type of music is not really what I was expecting.

The opener is probably one of the heaviest Ange song so far and not at all my cup of tea. Things are seriously improving with "Psychosomagique Génie" a truely symphonic number : complex rhythm with off-beat tempo. Lush mellotron and again, wonderful and theatrical vocals. A great tribute to Leonardo Da Vinci. The next song is made of two distinctive parts (although very short) : a noisy and hard intro and a wonderful and very subtle second half (again very symphonic). As if Ange wants to break with its symphonic image but not quite want to change completely from direction.

With "Bilboquet", the mood is 100% heavy / jazzy oriented. It sounds as if Ange wants to play Michel Jonnaz (a famous French singer, rather jazzy). Not really convincing, I'm afraid. After this orgy of noises, it is good to relax with "Elle Me Fait Des Rides". Very subtle piano and crystal clear vocals. Interesting lyrics as well. Press "Next" to skip the instrumental "Eurek[a". It should be an hymn to the great discoveries of the human being, but is only interesting (again) with its second half. As if Ange could almost only write half songs.

"L'Eau Qui Dort" is a mellow and insipid jazz ballad. "Archimède" is another tribute to a great Greek mathematician and physician. This spacey song still lacks of the grandeur of its inspirer. Nice to get asleep. At least, it's one of the few prog song of the whole. Back to the mix of jazz and symph rock with "Coma Des Mortels". Still, I am absolutely not convinced in this musical direction.

When Ange reverts to its roots, it is almost to propose mellowish songs like "Quelquefois". Boring, my friends...Like the hard- rockish "Ethnies" again improving slightly with a nice keys break in the middle. The naïve and folkish "Patisonges Et Mentisseries" is only valid for the play-on-word of its title. Press next.

Same play-on-words concept for "Et Gandhi L'Indou Dit Tout Doux". Not possible to translate this one. Strongly influenced by Oriental music (India, would you believe !), it is not worse than many of the other songs available here. "La Serrure Ou La Clé" holds very sexual-oriented lyrics and is only interesting therefore. Am I vicious ?

The last two songs are truely boring and will leave you asleep. Totally useless. This album is also exaggerately long. It only adds to the boring feeling and prolonged your experience uselessly .

This album is quite a deception for me. It is only superior (if I may use this term here) by an inch to albums like "Vu D'Un Chien", "Moteur!", etc. Two stars, but this rating is slightly optimistic.

3 stars 1. Le Rêve Est À Rêver (2nd Service) rock entry, haunting tune, the voice is still there and the prog side flows towards the melodic above all and Thierry's bass is already wreaking havoc, let's continue 2. Psychosomagique Génie precisely on a melodic, electronic framework; the sound changes, an Angel passes, the new musicians had been well rehearsed on the Christian DECAMPS & Fils; rock is almost dead, protest rap puts the sounds of before in the closet, quickly a text to hang on, a Mellotron and a guitar solo by Hassan the new prodigy to hit us in the right direction 3. Eurekâ ... simple as or how to interlude with a synth from the almost new millennium; the voice in the distance, Troyes, Chaumont?; Christian, Tristan? In short, ideal to launch 4. Bilboquet on a rock à la CHEAP TRICK yes the title of 'Métal Hurlant' go check for the trouble; vocal to JONASZ what Hassan and I wasn't warned?, well that doesn't catch as much as before, what can you do it's like that; the title that stretches, tries to the oriental air from afar and to fall back on the toy 5. Elle Fait Ma Rides for an a capella vocal-piano, son and father; for a jazz-rock nursery rhyme of night bar 6. Eurekâ In Extenso or how to wake up and dream to the prog sound of Ange? The enjoyable heavy interlude with its heady organ, its meticulous strike, its air that recalls, that recalls, yes without words we can approach 'Quasimodo' eh I didn't say it 7. L'Eau Qui Dort for a humidified variant with a slowed tempo, on some cloying jazzy, on lyrics that try to catch on; it's soft, it's marshmallowy, it smells of SERRA's 'Grand Bleu' and the voice is always faithful for those who follow them; for the others it's a bit of disbelief to see who it is 8. Archimède for the second progressive title with the captivating keyboard, no longer that of the 70s of ANGE but that of the new millennium that shows up with the nephew; in short an ANGEL between two asses between two chairs

9. Coma Des Mortels for the jazzy-rock symphonic essay where a beautiful guitar solo floats, with a piano variation that can make you think of the watered-down SUPERTRAMP 10. Sometimes we wonder who this group is, here is the opportunity; what happened, a desire to find a new genre? Sometimes to stay on its musically promising niche 11. Ethnies arrives and does good; it's nervous, it's cheerful even if we won't reach the mythical phrasing of BERUS and their 'Salut à Toi'; the drum-keyboard variation with prog drops that reassure a little as well as the crazy finale 12. Patisonges Et Mentisseries and the bucolic interlude ballad 13. Mémoires De Jacob Delafon for the association of voices, yes, well there you go; ah yes the finale but almost a taste of [&*!#] no? 14. And Ghandi L'Hindou Dit Tout Doux for the good surprise with this oriental title soaring-dub-energetic that is drunk like a tea in the middle of the desert 15. La Serrure Ou La Clé for the song that can pierce the ass, yes 4mn to fau and to blood like hemorrhoids on crazy heavy prog rock à la ANGE; the title that gosh darn it but why didn't they cover it live, too good that!!! Well I listened to the text again to be sure not to do 'soustoi'. The enjoyable guitar solo, I didn't write it on purpose, but what a great, what a great hard-sputnik title that hits you in the...! 16. Jardin Secret for the prog intro that we no longer expected, well me yes since I stayed unlike many who had deserted the CD; yes 70mn we go to the end; intoxicating air that hypnotizes, that upsets with its orchestral part and its expressive explosion; a magnificent secret garden to share in secret with oneself 17. The Water Car for the finale, the outro, the jazzy piece that drips into your ears; well I still listen in case the recipe for the water car is not just an invention ... that falls through.
