2 stars A decent single album, nothing more!

Kate Bush is one of my favorite singers, she easily enters in my top 5, so anything that comes from her, is well received by me. Last week I was lucky enough to find in a second hand store this single CD entitled "Rocket Man / Candle in the Wind" and did not hesitate in buying it. Release by Mercury in 1991, as you can imagine, this is a cover of that well known song that Elton John immortalized.

Kate did the cover for an album called "Two Rooms: 16 classic songs from Elton John and Bernie Taupin", and this single came from that. The song is excellent, her voice is simple adorable, sweet and passionate, a reason of that may be that as she once said: "Elton John was my biggest hero". So go figure.

"Candle in the Wind", another classic song original by John and arranged here by Kate. The sound is pure and beautiful, despite the music is pretty soft and gently, one can easily appreciate its depth. The atmosphere created is wonderful, the hand of Bush is evident. That was the second track, and the third one is actually the same song, but in a instrumental version. The same beauty is shared here, but well, without Kate's voice is not the same.

This is a nice single, a cool tribute from a big artist to another big musician. I love it, but well, it is only a fourteen-minute CD, so my final grade is two stars, just for fans.

Enjoy it!

2 stars I am a huge fan of just about anything that Kate Bush has put out. I am not really, however, an Elton John fan. Maybe 3 or 4 of his songs have ever earned my attention- and "Rocket Man" is one of these. This interpretation of the song by Kate Bush finds her turning the song into a typical Kate song, a bit folky, spacy, great vocals as always, and no doubt as to it being her track. Good, but not great. I prefer Elton's version. "Candle in th Wind" was an overplayed Elton John number that Kate improves upon with great moody vocals and ethereal music. An instrumental only version is also included, but without Kate singing, why bother? I listen to Kate Bush BECAUSE of her vocal sound, not for the music behind it. This release is only for real fans of Kate and her music. 2 stars.
