NEVER LET GO

After adding this entry on PA years ago I have forgotten to write a review. This is just an mp3 that Andy Latimer released for free on www.camelproductions.com and its an important document for two reasons: the first is that it's a tribute in memory of Peter Bardens, the second is that it's the last recording of Andy Latimer if we don't consider some collaborations like the recent one with David Minasian.

So what to say about just one song? It starts with acoustic guitar, Andy asks "where's gone the spirit?" I think he's referring to "Spirit of the Water" that's the best lyric ever written by Bardens. The music is not too sad, just a bit nostalgic maybe. It's a perfect closure act of a long career, a sort of end title song.

From a purely musical perspective I don't know if it can be called a masterpiece, but it's surely at the level of the best Camel's songs. It could be placed as bonus track on a re-release of Moonmadness without making a scandal.

The lyrics are moving and Latimer has surely achieved to transmit his feelings trough this song. This is in my opinion the first objective that an artist has and it's harder for a musician respect than for a painter or a poet. So even if it probably doesn't match completely the PA guidelines, it's a 5 stars for me. Take it as a prize to the career.
