4 stars This album really left a strong impression on me. From the first note of ''Wounded Lions'' to the last one of ''Red Book'', I am realy impress by the quality of this reccord.

''Wounded Lions'' start the album with an ominous atmosphere that become more and more darker until a slow electronic beat start and leads the song progression with atmospherics sounds and voices.

The second song ''Disappear'' continue in the same ways has the first song, with electronic beats and atmosphere until about 3 minutes where the song just change to an organic intsrumental mood until the end of the song.

Then comes one of my favorite piece of this marvelous album: ''Seeing in the Dark''. Starting with a strong piano that introduce the song, it really grows in a great electro/song. I should say that the progression of this song really reminds me of ''All I Need'' by Radiohead with the piano and voices at the end.

''The Blood'' is another great electronic rock song with nice synth effects.

Starting with a loud druming, ''Something in the Sky'' quite continue in the vein of ''Seeing in the Dark''. With nice piano and guitar lines, the song itself is another highlight of the album.

''The Underneath'' is an exemple of Mothlite's capacity to blend strong electronic beats with atmospherics synth. I also like O'Sullivan's voice, particularly on this song, which I think is very warm and etheral.

Here is another of my favorite track: ''Zebras''. Very electronic, I like how it blend hard riff with synth motif until a nice solo close the song.

''Dreamsinter Nightspore'' is also interesting, with a lot of effects and dark atmoshperes.

''Milk'' is more calm with spacy synth effects and atmospheres and a very nice electronics beat that progress throught the song, while at the same time it does not seems to change a lot.

The tilte track is also great and is another blend of all the musical elements of this album and great vocals.

Finally, the closing tracks ''Red Book'' end this reccord with calm piano/bass/drum while the effects are more on the vocals. This song is the less electronic of the reccord but is a perfect closer to an outstanding album by a band that I just discovered.

For those who likes electronic music blended with dark atmospheres and a lot of synth effects, this is a must. In the likes of Radiohead, Porcupine Tree, Engineers, Ulver, North Atlantic Oscillation and many others. 5/5

3 stars There isn't much to say about this album. Mothlite's sophomore effort is, well, dark. "Dark Age" is certainly dreary and very electronic. However, there isn't actually a whole lot going on here.

The album has some very good bits throughout its eleven tracks. That's the strange thing here: I can't really pick out an excellent track because most of the tracks have brilliant portions, but then the rest of the track will be average. It's a weird predicament. That said, I do think "Something in the Sky", "The Underneath" and "Dreamsinter Nightspore" have the most awesome.

The music is also hard to decipher. It's like a cross between Nine Inch Nails and Stabbing Westward, but with a nocturnal filter to the instrumentation and vocals. And also a post-rock vibe. Yes, this album is very sleepy. Most of the tracks consist of soft, harmonizing vocals with electronic or keyboard leads. This is nice and all, but it does get a little wearisome eventually; and it can be difficult to finish the album. It also doesn't help when many of the instruments get lost in the nocturnal mesh, and almost lose their individuality.

Overall, this is a nice album that is actually quite relaxing to hear. It's gentle, but somewhat weird. It's electronic, but somehow organic, too. It contains pulsating rhythms, but also consistent ambiance. It's an anomaly, for sure, but I'm sure Kscope knows what they are doing.
