5 stars Transatlantic trio BANGTOWER consists of bassist Percy Jones, drummer Walter Garces and guitarist Neil Citron, and has been categorized as something of a supergroup. "Casting Shadows" is their debut album, released in the fall of 2010.

If you enjoy instrumental progressive rock and don't mind some carefully controlled excursions into fusion territories, Bangtower is a band you need to check out, and "Casting Shadows" is a disc most of the people who check it out will desire to own. A highly recommended CD, where most of the pieces merit a description as brilliant. Opening piece BBA and Hair of the Dog two compositions that should give a good impression about what this album has to offer.

3 stars 3.5 really. Bangtower is a little known jazz fusion band from our days but with well known musicians involved in. They release one album in 2010 named Casting shadows and was for me a pleasent ride from start to finish. Percy Jones is the head of band , a respected and well known bass player in last 40 years coming from old school of jazz fusion from Brand X and being memeber aswell in Tunnels a great jazz fuison band from late '90's. Neil Citron is responsable for keyboards and guitar has many collaborations with bands like Rocket Scientist or Phideaux among others and the drumer Walter Garces. The album is entirely instrumental and the musicians and their ideas covering almost all areas of jazz fusion world with great guitars and here and there keyboards, and solid bass lines, resoulting a fine album, but I don' t think is groundbreaking, is great but not excellent, IMO. Fine musicianship on all pieces, nicce breaks and tempo, but is to same with what was done years and years before, in places they are not far from Brand X or Tunnels fame. BBA or Hair of the dog are the most excellent tarcks, nice ideas and musicianship like aswell on all pieces. All in all, fans of the genre must take some spins , worth it for sure. 3.5 stars
