4 stars SAVANNA is a new outfit to appear on the scene which offers a fresh symbiotic mix of progressive psychedelic/space and art rock. Pink Floyd and Porcupine Tree might have had some major influential impact here. This is their first sign of life so to say, we are talking about an EP which is assembling seven songs, relatively short and compact more or less... but when listening, this certainly could also go for one rounded epic in its entirety. As for that some spiritual association is coming up to Brazilian newcomer Cobalt Blue, who convinced me in a similar way some time ago.

There's a cinematic vibe to state too ... and true, the band also points out some passion for soundtrack masters like Ennio Morricone for example. The short title track evolves from an electronic/ambient playground to a majestic rocking behaviour. Now the follower Run opens with an opulent bass line and offers catchy guitar riffs, furthermore the song is inviting to sing along featuring charming guest backing vocals. With Fall they are gliding into a wonderful hallucinogenic spin then, dominated by spaced out guitars and synths.

The impressive closing song couple Curtains Of Death turns out to be the album highlight. First of all the groove based on a lively bass and drum work, quirky synths are swirling around in between, the varied multi-tracked guitars not to forget. This is song writing I would normally expect from old hands. Besides those aforementioned prog dinosaurs I would also name Astra and Moonwagon if there should be a demand for similar acts to mention. Entertainment pure during 23 minutes in total - this cries for more. SAVANNA is another band where I'm eagerly waiting for the next output.
