2 stars After plenty of unsuccesful attempts to find his Ithaca in numerous bands, L.A.-based American multi-instrumentalist Brian Michael Waymire decided to follow his own personal path.He launched the Neo Star Nova-Z project during the spring of 2011 and started working on his first album instantly. He asked the help of Images of Eden/All Too Human's singer Gordon Tittsworth to record the vocal parts and so ''Infinity Factor'' was born, digitally released through bandcamp in July 2012.

''Infinity factor'' is a bizarre blend of Progressive Metal, Heavy Prog and Electronic Music with endless programmed sounds and vocal distortions, grounded in the more experimental material recorded by FATES WARNING (''A pleasant shade of gray'' period) and QUENNSRYCHE (''Promised land''-era), unfortunately never even reaching the great inspiration of the masters. The tracks come as an amalgam of weird electronic loops, powerful electric guitars and spacey synthesizers with the angry voice of Tittsworth delivering the lyrics, but the result is completely atonal, often experimental and at moments extremely dense, with different ideas gathered in limited time length. The addition of acoustic guitars and programmed strings make the album even more chaotic and disordered without any sign of stability between instrumental and vocal passages.Additionally this work was not made for serving any melodic contents, the presence of which could have made the listening more interesting. The performance of Waymire is not actually that bad as an individual, some of his music skills show a man with talent and technical efficiency, but his compositions sound totally loose and directionless.A few sporadic synth workouts and sharp electric soundscapes hold some interest, but as a whole ''Infinity factor'' sounds quite pointless.

Dedicate Prog Metal and atmospheric Prog fans have a chance to be partly pleased by Waymire's debut. But be warned that the striking moments, highlights or even trully interesting material is rather absent from this work.
