PIE JESU

Not realy progressive music but it is an o so beautiful work of art, but. If you like any of Fripp's Soundscapes, this is a must have. I must say the title-track is one of the most beautiful instrumental pieces of music in my collection although the music (like all Soundscapes) is very sober. The rest of this EP is worth listening to, although I think this is more a single than an EP (which means the other songs are not as good as the titletrack).

This 4 track ep is a kind of introduction to Frippertronic soundscapes. All 4 tracks are available elsewhere on The Gates of Paradise and A Blessing of Tears, although the version of Sometimes God Hides is live.

As Dirkjan said, the title track is marvellous, one of the best Frippertronic pieces of all. The whole ep is very pleasant listening, although the pieces work even better in their original context. Definitely non essential if you're already into Frippertronics, worth checking out if you've never heard this side of Fripp's work and you're curious.

Incidentally, these 4 tracks are also included on a Russian release of King Crimson's Level 5 that I picked up a year or so back in a second hand CD shop in London. Excellent value if you should see a copy.

This CD EP contains the most beautiful and accesible selections of Mr. Fripp's soundscape works from the 90's. If you are a big fan of his soundscaping, you don't need this one, as you'll get these tracks from the longplayer CD's. But if you are not familiar with these works and like beutiful ambient, or just want to have one album of his works from this period, this is an essential choice!

This EP contains segments of songs and short songs that are in the previous soundscape albums so if you have some previous albums you don't really need this but for people that are new to Fripp's soundscapes and wan't to know what a soundscape actually is then get this. The songs are like a door to different dimentions. Once you start with the first song, Pie Jesu, you'll open the door to a new world (indeed this is very relaxing music and very thought provoking too). They are all really moody and space sounding songs that have more in common with ambient than rock.

There's really not much to say about this EP. If you want to get into what Fripp whas doing in the 90's or if the name "soundscapes" makes you curious then go get this ep.

P.S. The best way to listen to this is in the night, all lights turned off and with headphones.
