4 stars The flowing nature of Aidan Baker's musical evolution.

If Krautrock evoluted into something these days, it will surely sound like this 2007, "Thoughtspan". Although Aidan Baker is canadian, he sure is one of its best heirs. His fascination with the borders of music/noise, order/chaos or his focused/experimental structures, are close to this sub-genre's stylings. But his tones are rarely playful, rather the opposite, which of course does not mean that he is that obscure, but enough as the prog-electronics who favor these colors. (Throbbing Gristle, Lustmord, Tim Hecker, Coil, Merzbow, etc, etc.)

"Thoughtspan" plays within those borders. Blending straight forward bright and hypnotic steel strings guitar strummings or piano lines among chaotic and inhospitable environments. This is masterfully accomplished, by Aidan Baker (guitar, bass, vocals, flute, drums ) and his two guests, Sarah Gleadow's violin and Lucas Baker's trumpet . (Yeah! Apparently no synths!)

The raw, expansive ("the sky is the limit") and unorthodox "dark"nature of this work as its instrumentation, could also easily stand between the RiO/AV asthetiques. In fact these musical structures actually fit any of these prog sub-genres, even though its small dossages of post/math rock and the droning sensation of the so acclaimed "Shoegaze".

Thereby, if any of these mentioned sub-genres suits your fancy, you are in for a memorable, and above all, a promising ride into the possible future fusion of these prog stylings.

**** 4 "way-ahead, creative "electronic" music" PA stars!
