4 stars Ukraine based experimental band, 5R6 are about to release their debut full-length titled 'Islands' on September 25th. The band has previously released two EP's. Their new material shows the band's affection for bands such as Alice in Chains, Mastodon, Soundgarden, Tool.

'The Ledge' opens the 7-track album, and is the perfect headstart which hints what 5R6 hide in their music arsenal. The band's juxtaposition of progressive and alternative rock is masterfully elaborated in 'Potion,' a 7-odd minutes hitter. 'Rise' was the first single off the record, and is one of the centerpieces of the album.

Progressive and grunge come together in 'TV Snow,' spiced with hidden love for Placebo. The term 'open-mindedness' pops up to mind during the song's almost 5 minutes. The title song closes the record in a grandiose way- it defines the album musically and conceptually.

If you wonder about what progressive rock/metal, experimental, alternative rock and grunge sound when blended together, 5R6's debut full-length is the a good example for it. Give this album a chance, and you won't regret.
