5 stars Surprising to see no one has yet reviewed either the CD or the DVD of this gorgeous live set. There are 29 DVD ratings, and 90% of them five stars! That will be my rating too, for sure. This is simply among the finest concert DVD's I've seen, up there with CAMEL at the Royal Albert Hall. For starters, the place itself is so beautiful that combined with great prog music and a passionate performance from the band, how could it be anything less than wonderful? As one can recognize from the cover picture, also this concert from Marillion was filmed at the Royal Albert Hall, even in the same year 2017 as the mentioned Camel concert. Both DVD's are excellently directed as well, and the setting of the show (lights, projections) is visually of high artistic level.

Marillion's latest studio album before the recently much praised An Hour Before It's Dark (2022) was F.E.A.R., or F*** Everyone And Run (2016). I've actually had it on my shelf but haven't much listened to it. For some reason I never really gave it a proper chance after the initial lacklustre listenings. I can't explain why things remained that way for years to come, because the album is very good after all. Making me realize that was indeed one of the most notable effects this DVD had on me. I think F.E.A.R., with its long multi-part tracks, is the kind of an album that greatly benefits from the visual aspect of its live performance in entirety. For example the imagery of travelling and airport terminal during 'The Leavers' brings the song emotionally much closer to the listener/viewer. Hogarth's words in-between the pieces also work nicely for opening up the album.

The first disc -- it's a 2DVD, the info is a bit vague here -- features F.E.A.R. played entirely. Steve Hogarth is truly at his element here, full of heartfelt passion and dedication to what he's singing. Some viewers might think he's using too much hand gestures and such, but to me it's an essential part of his own style and personality, and I don't see it as pretentious or naiive or anything like that. In my opinion Mr. H is a sincere, emotionally strong and charismatic singer particularily on stage, although I know he's not for everyone's taste. The rest of the band, ie. Rothery, Kelly, Trewavas and Mosley, are also clearly enjoying one of the highlight moments in Marillion's career, playing to an enthusiastic audience at the Royal Albert Hall. The atmosphere is extremely warm.

The latter part of the concert (the 2nd disc) consists of selected songs from the H era Marillion performed with the addition of a string quartet, flute and French horn. 'The Space', 'Afraid of Sunlight', 'The Great Escape', 'Man of a Thousand Faces', 'Neverland' and three other songs. Very enjoyable, and the arrangements function very well. But perhaps in the end I was more impressed by the F.E.A.R. part of the concert. Every Marillion (H era) fan who favours live DVD's should have this one. Excellent.
