5 stars A masterpiece, yes this album is. The sounds and voices could be compared to ANGLAGARD or MARILLION with a touch of violin and cello, and all the tracks are fulfill with melodies we have never heard before. We can clearly listen to all instruments (such like Anglagard) : each one has its own part, we have the feeling that each note has been worked to make the listener attentive. The musicians can play all style, and the orgasm comes with the eleventh track that is not like the others very sympho-neo-prog : a mixture of HAWKWIND and BLACK SABBATH that could make jealous a lot of metal prog bands. If you like prog bands bringing changes in this style, go to listen to this.

3 stars I'm not sure if it was the album cover (it was) or the fact this band is from Sweden (are you kidding me?) that caught my attention, but somewhere along the line I added them to my collection. This is a concept album about a girl named Lucy who happens to grace the album cover in a black and white photo. While the album cover is tasteful the pictures of her inside aren't. First of all this band should not be in Neo-Prog as there's nothing about their music that has those elements. Violin and cello are quite prominant on this album along with the unique higher pitch vocals that i'm not thrilled about but can tolerate. Apparently this band had a steady diet of KING CRIMSON and David Bowie when they recorded this.

"Theatre" is laid back with vocals early but it picks up as the tempo shifts throughout. Strings and chunky bass 2 minutes in as the vocals stop. They're back before 4 minutes though while strings continue. "About The Clown" opens with strings and piano.Vocals join in fairly quickly and it gets fuller before 4 minutes. "Water" is nice and heavy to start but it settles when the vocals arrive with strings and drums. Some more brief heaviness 3 1/2 minutes in. "Lucylove" is pastoral to open and vocals come in before a minute. It kicks in a minute later but then settles again.

"The Beautifulizer" features strings, drums and bass early. Vocals join in around a minute. It turns intense after 2 minutes for about a minute. "Miracle" sounds great with the strings and guitar. "Interlude" is a short string section. "The Marionettes" settles in with vocals and strings before picking back up as contrasts continue. "The Age Of Lucylove Has Come" features passionate vocals and strings. "Lucy Enters The Summachine" is a really good track as it gets pretty intense 2 1/2 minutes in. "Malenka" is different with the guitar making noise. It's really epic sounding and quite heavy. "Epilogue" is laid back with vocals, strings and a beat until it kicks in before 1 1/2 minutes as contrasts continue.

A good album but one that fails to get me very excited. Well worth 3 stars though.

3 stars A group from Uppsala, Sweden with an attractive, personal album.Indisciplined Lucy were Pelle Lindroth on vocals/guitar, Mikael Eriksson on guitar, Jakob Luttinger on bass, Arvid Nerdal on keyboards, Elías Unge on drums/percussion, Gunnar Oestman on violin and Lisa Fagius on cello. They recorded an EP entitled ''The clown'' for the Swedish label Step One Records, but due to its failure their plans for their already prepared debut album were cancelled. The group moved to Stockholm, reputedly exploring new musical directions, but a couple of years later they decided this work was too good to remain closed in a drawer. As Angular Records was interested in their work since 1997, the release of ''About the black eyed girl'' became true in 1999 through their branch-label RectAngular Records.

This was a concept album about a girl named Lucy, who was convinced that she had the power to change the world and the group dressed the story with narrations and singing parts following the concept.Soundwise Indisciplined Lucy were a rather strange albeit a pretty original group.Their vocalist Pelle Lindroth sings all the way in a very theatrical style akin to the more respectable Neo Prog acts of this singing style, while some delicate melodies contained follow also the same mood. But the style of the band went far beyond this approach. The presence of a cellist and a violinist introduced plenty of Sympho elements, but not in the typical prog way, rather in a very Chamber Music style with extended string arrangements and lush orchestrations set over Lindroth's voice.Eventually the album obtains a very fairy-tale atmosphere, which passes between smooth Classical-drenched themes, guitar-led Progressive Rock and more melodic textures, basically headed by Lindroth's ability to offer dreamy and expressive vocals. However they seem to fall often into their own personal identity with the album rarely getting out of the matrix of Chamber-like orchestrations with theatrical aspects and this work sounds pretty similar till' the last minute. The quality of the music though is always in a high level with some beautiful passages, full of ethereal colors.

Unfortunately the band's traces have been lost after the album, documented as Indisciplined Lucy's first and last full-length release.Singer Pelle Lindroth moved on to a personal career under the name of Parken and also played in the Indie Pop act The Chrysler. He also played with his bandmate Jakob Luttinger in the huge Electronic project Moder Jords Massiva.Cellist Lisa Fagius appeared also on A.C.T second album ''Imaginary Friends''.

Not close to perfection, but anyone after some unique and theatrical Progressive Rock should give this a hunt.Recommended.
