4 stars 'Live at Knebworth' is an archival live album by Pink Floyd, recorded at the small village of Knebworth, south of Stevenage and north of London - an event that featured Paul McCartney (with whom Floyd had a little fuss over the headlining position), Genesis, Phil Collins, Tears for Fears, Robert Plant & Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton, and Dire Straits. This dense five-star line-up resulted in Pink Floyd playing somewhat of a condensed set of seven classic tracks for some fifty-five minutes with a line-up of David Gilmour, Rick Wright and Nick Mason, additionally with Guy Pratt on bass, Tim Renwick on guitars, Gary Wallis on percussion, among others. Being released in 2021, this live recording is excellently mixed, and the listener can more or less submerge in the atmosphere of the concert. 'Live at Knebworth 1990' is also part of a very elegantly packaged box set, called 'The Later Years 1987-2019'.

The set is opened by 'Shine on You Crazy Diamond (Parts 1-5)' - played flawlessly by the band, which is followed by 'The Great Gig in the Sky' which sees Clare Torry's return to play this track live for the first time since 1973! And it is needless to say that she does the job astonishingly. Then the band goes back to the 'Wish You Were Here' album to play the title track, a pleasing Gilmour-centered version of it. Fourth on the setlist is the then-new 'Sorrow', another song highlighting Gilmour's magnificent presence; following this is a great 10-minute version of 'Money', with some interesting extended instrumental sections. The last two tracks are the live staple 'Comfortably Numb' and the up-tempo 'Run Like Hell' from 'The Wall'.

The set is stellar (and this is elevated by Pink Floyd's ability to render beautifully live the already-perfect studio versions of their songs), the mix is really good, and although this album shows the more straightforward and hard rock side of the band, it is a great addition to their live discography.
