4 stars Splinter is a duth neo prog band with two albums relesed so far. Their first album was released in 2004 named devil's jigsaw and is a fine album with a lot to offer. I like very much how easy they play on entire album, very smooth aproach from mellow to a more metalized parts. Splinter is influnce mainly by Dream Theater but aswell some Arena or Iq moments are present, anyway they have a very american sound, not band in the end , realy. Complex compostions, like the opening track The Devil's Advocate , 11 min of the highest calibre, solid musicianship and tight arrangements, made from this album a real succes and a great debute. The neo prog elements are so well melted in more rogher ones, not far from prog metal in some parts, that in the end is entirely pleasent journey to the listner. very strong is besides the voice of Ron Hoekstra the dueling between keybords and guitar, inventive and intristing in same time. I will give to this first album 4 stars, well done , played and produce, in places remind me of Dream Theater or Hourglass another american band from this field.
