THE ART OF LIVE

Queensryche is my best band, i always believed that Geoff Tate is the best singer in the world and i've sen them 4 times live, and it was always exceptionnal. This live dvd is a good one,and i really like it, it gives opportunity for some people to discover the newer but very good songs....ANyway, i also have to say that i think that the production iof this DVD is far from excellent, they decided to create a visual effect, by changin the colours of the image, in a kind of gold/yellow black, i am nor sure how to transcribe it in words, but it looks like old pictures and it doesn't bring anything positive in the concept. The sound is ok, but it does not relect the quality that queensryche could sound like.It is kind of cheap dvd. I really enjoy the 2 songs with the guys of Dream theatre, comfortably numb and wont get fooled again, in which the 2 drummers prove their magnificent talent. You are a queensryche or DT fan...buy it, you'are not a huge fan ...buy live evolution and then you will get something

This DVD has the smell of a band cashing-in. It was obviousl made on the cheap, with few camera angles and lousy production values all around. This is compounded by the fact they decided to render everything is this weird, washed out tone that makes it look almost like a film negative.

Which is too bad b/c there are some good songs here. THe closing piece featuring the band with Dream Theater on Comfortably Numb and Won't Get Fooled Again is outstanding. As is the middle acoustic setion featuring My Global Mind and Roads to Madness. Add the only available live versions of Della Brown and Anybody Listening and you have the potential makings of a good DVD. Too bad it's so underdone. For collectors only.

It must have sounded great on paper - let's make a DVD that is totally in a sepia tone and use amateur and professional footage to create an artistic concert experience. Unfortunately, this is a washed out experience and dull to the max apart from a couple of excellent tracks.

The set is based on the 'Tribe' album which is not the best QR by any standards. There are only two tracks from 'Operation Mindcrime' - a tragedy as that is their masterpiece.

The pleasant surprise is the special guest appearances of Dream Theater, one of my all time favourite bands. They join QR to play two brilliant versions of 'Comfortably Numb' and 'Won't Get Fooled Again'. The two tracks make this worth watching to the end, but I believe you will be ffwding this DVD to those tracks after one viewing.

Without the colourful lighting and occasional 'Operation Mindcrime' track, the concert is very disappointing. No colour makes a boring experience when watching a band perform. What a waste of talent, time and energy. Get hold of 'Operation: Live-Crime' which is brilliant, and leave this 'Art(less) of Live' on the shelf.

It would seem I picked the wrong Queensryche concert DVD to sample this esteemed band, as I was pretty surprised at how lackluster and underwhelming many of the tracks were to me. I'll have to assume this is an anomaly and I should try something else for better material. So let's discuss the viewing instead. The production and sound quality is low rent as other reviewers have noted, the show-long sepia wash didn't bother me so much but I can understand the complaint. It did seem to suck the energy out of the overall presentation a bit. I disagree with the complaints about the video though, the edits showed the band pretty well, with plenty of fret board footage which I like to see. Despite being pretty bored it is the encore that makes the DVD worth seeing for fans. Dream Theater joins the band onstage for truly rousing versions of "Comfortably Numb" and "Won't Get Fooled Again." With that much talent onstage and both bands loose, there was little they could do to mess it up. Petrucci delivered a positively killer rendition of the Gilmour solo, staying true to the solo people love with just enough of his own edge to spice it up nicely. The Who track was much rowdier with everyone just going nuts and having so much fun, a total shred. While it was fun to watch I was struck by how these two high profile drummers could not best the Moonie I heard playing in my head. It is a testament to The Who that their version is still more exciting that what double the personnel of these giants could muster. Still, the encore was a blast to see although it is not enough to nudge this show to a 3-star good rating. Truly a "for fans" DVD if there ever was, though I'm not a knowledgeable fan of this group, so don't take my word.
