South Harbour biography
SOUTH HARBOUR is an experimental/post metal band from Copenhagen, Denmark founded by guitarist Alexander VARSLEV-PEDERSEN. The band was originally conceived as a solo instrumental project, but as the music became more developed, it turned into a group effort involving various different artists from other bands, and an album started to form. While the album was being recorded, a touring line-up was formed consisting of VARSLEV-PEDERSON and Kristian Hejlskov LARSEN on guitars and Andreas DAHL-BLUMENBERG on bass as regular members.
The band's debut album was released in 2019 and was titled "A Withered World in Colour". Most of the instruments were performed by VARSLEV-PEDERSEN, but he also utilized various vocalists and bands to help out with the album. The result was overall an emotional and atmospheric progressive metal album that is at once dark and pensive but then suddenly heavy and at times quite harsh. The music stretches the boundaries of the progressive metal genre with experimental sections that borrow from various styles ranging from rhythm & blues to extreme metal and post rock and post metal sub-genres.
This "thinking person's" metal will most likely be appealing to fans of TOOL and TESSERACT.
