Stan d'Art biography
Stan d'Art was a Polish band from Kielce, founded at the turn of 1984/85 and active until 1988. During their career in 1985, they won the main prize "Jury" in the Warsaw competition "Dni Komedy" and appeared in "Jazz nad Odrą" - in which won the Grand Prix in 1986.

In 1987 they managed to make their first and last album "Undergrajdoł" (mix of words "underground" and "grajdoł" meaning lightly "a village or provincial town"). Recorded in the line-up containing Marian ZYCH (bass), Leszek DZIAREK (drums), Andrzej CHOCHÓŁ (guitar), Janusz IWAŃSKI (guitar, vocals, percussion), Włodek KINIORSKI (saxophone, percussion), Henryk GEMBALSKI (violin) and Dariusz GALON (violin, cello, percussion). The sole album is an eclectic combination of prog rock, jazz fusion, avant-garde and the sounds of the 80's. Parts of writhing progressive guitars alternate with solos on the violin and saxophone with the addition of loud pulsating bass. Tracks range from the more atmospheric to releasing harsher sounds, giving the original picture of the whole album.

Undergrajdoł is a coherent monument of the searching prog rock of the second half of the 80's and can be recommended to fans of French / Belgian avant-prog and fluent combinations of prog rock, jazz fusion and new wave/post punk. What distinguishes Stan d'Art is memorable melodies, rich arrangements and a kind of internal moral concern.
