Obsidian Tongue biography
Obsidian Tongue are an American progressive black metal band based in Portland, Maine. Originally from Plymouth, Massachusetts, the duo play a style of atmospheric black metal inspired by Pacific Northwestern pioneers Wolves in the Throne Room and Agalloch.

In existence since 2009, Obsidian Tongue intially began as the solo project of guitarist/vocalist Brendan Hayter (formerly of Woods of Ypres and Autolatry, currently in Truthseeker, Shabti and Thrawsunblat), who later recruited Alcyone drummer Greg Murphy. A 2010 demo tape caught the attention of Hypnotic Dirge Records, who released their first two records, Volume I: Subradiant Architecture and A Nest of Ravens in the Throat of Time, the latter of which featured Agalloch's John Haughm as a guest on the title track. Obsidian Tongue issued two splits in 2015, sharing space with fellow Northeastern bands Infera Bruo, Autolatry and In Human Form. Ray Capizzo, drummer of Falls of Rauros and Shabti, replaced Murphy by the time of 2020's full-length Volume III.
