Auto Da Fe biography
Auto Da Fe is the psychedelic folk project of Amps for Christ collaborator Tara Tavi, formed in Pomona, California in 2000. The group began in the wake of Tavi's return from a yearlong exploration of China and Tibet, who recruited fellow multi-instrumentalist Martin Kvisvic and drummer Joel Connell, both of whom also played in Amps for Christ. Auto Da Fe cultivated a sound unique to the freak folk movement of the 2000s, combining influences from Tibetan, Chinese, Polynesian and Roma music with a foundation rooted in the acid folk of the 1970s, earning them comparisons to the Pentangle, Long Live Death, Kaleidoscope, Mellow Candle and Faun Fables.

Their debut album, The Spectre, was released on Secret Eye Records in 2006, featuring contributions from a number of guest musicians including Amps for Christ mastermind Henry Barnes and Djam Karet bassist Aaron Kenyon. Years later, Auto Da Fe began a Bandcamp page, uploading three further works: Emit Time, their long-completed sophomore record from 2009, the soundtrack LP Lizzie Borden, and the Hither and Thon EP.
