Alkalys biography
In existence from 2002 to 2012, Alkalys were a French post-metal band from Normandy. Over the course of three albums, Alkalys evolved from noisy metallic post-rock to full-fledged atmospheric sludge metal, earning them comparisons to their contemporaries Isis, Red Sparowes, Jesu, 65dayofstatic and Cult of Luna. Alkalys made their self-titled 2007 debut on independent label VXL Records, later signing to Basement Apes Industries, which subsequently released 2009's Choeur Delys and 2011's A Pack of Lies, the latter their heaviest and most aggressive work by far.

Subject to instability, Alkalys experienced half a dozen lineup shifts during their tenure. While players came and went, founding musician Jimmy Fauvel (bass) remained the consistent core of Alkalys, with co-founder Speet Silex (drums) a close second. Thomas Leroy (guitar) joined in the wake of Choeur Delys in 2010, and supported Fauvel in stabilising the lineup until their breakup in 2012.
