Light of Shipwreck biography
Active in the mid-to-late 2000s, Light of Shipwreck was a project of American electronic musician, producer and author Ben Fleury-Steiner, based in Wilmington, Delaware. Fleury-Steiner, who also records under his given name and the pseudonym Paradin, is a sociologist and professor at the University of Delaware specialising in criminal justice. Between 2006 and 2009, Light of Shipwreck released four full-length albums and an EP through labels such as his own (now-defunct) Gears of Sand, Reverb Worship and Peasant Magik, inspired by the work of American expatriate poet George Oppen.

Wielding processed electric guitar, bass, vocals and programmed drums, Fleury-Steiner performed krauty and metallic trance-rock bordering on ambient-techno, a frenetic tumble of repetitive ritual percussion married to towering string-sourced drones that has been compared to This Heat, Earth, Aidan Baker, Can, the Necks, Tim Hecker, Troum and even Steve Reich.
