Abunai! biography
ABUNAI! formed during the year 1996 in Brighton/Massachussetts. The band name has a Japanese origin, meaning 'Caution!'. Dan Parmenter (bass), Brendan Quinn (guitar) and Joe Turner (drums) joined for some jam sessions at first. Quinn's college mate Kris Thompson (keys, theremin) came aboard some weeks later to complete the line-up.

They signed to the Australian Camera Oscura label and the debut album 'Universal Mind Decoder' was released in 1997 consisting of ten early psychedelia coloured songs. 'The Mystic River Sound' followed two years later - quasi a compilation of different stylistical impressions even including pop and folk to name a few. This resulted a coverage in several publications like Rolling Stone for example plus airplay on the BBC's John Peel show.

The year 2000 saw the release 'Round-Wound' then - consisting of improvisation excerpts recorded during the previous three years at their rehearsal studio - condensed and mixed to one extended space rock epic. Stylistically equal the EP 'Deep Mu Flux + 2' appeared the same year. The band dissolved in 2002 but came together once for a reunion concert at the Terrastock festival in April 2006. The Camera Lucida label finally released 'Two Brothers' (2003) - an EP containing two live recordings.

ABUNAI! is a multifaceted band blending progressive psych, space and folk rock elements with the result of mellow melodic songs as well as experimentally tinged improvisations.
