Carta biography
CARTA was formed in 2002 by Kyle Monday & Jason Perez. In 2005 they recorded their first album 'The Glass Bottom Boat', but it was released in 2007, becouse the band was in search of record label during that time. The album was produced by Eli Crews (of Elephant 6 band Beulah), also features Sarah Bell on keyboards, melodica, accordion, and vocals;Ray Welter on bass, guitar, and trumpet; Sonny Culbertson on drums; Jared Matt Greenberg (Charles Atlas) on trumpet, organ, and piano; Sacha Galvagna (Charles Atlas) on bass; and Alex Kort (Subtle) on cello. After the two-year hiatus, the band had undergone a complete line up transformation, all members were gone except for Kyle Monday & Ray Welter they regrouped with Oakland drummer Raj Ojha (who had just left electro-post-rock band RUN RETURN) & bassist/guitarist Sacha Galvagna (ex-CHARLES ATLAS), cellist Alex Kort (ex-SUBTLE) returned to work on few songs, Lorealle Bishop was band?s new female vocalist, several tracks were mixed by Gabriel Coan(former CONTINENTAL drummer & Christopher Willits-collaborator)The album was released by Silber Records on February 16, 2010. Their sound is rich, melancholic. Additional usage of cello, piano, melodica, marimbas in their music just creates some etherial, dreamy soundscapes, shifting from electronic surreal vibes, drone like atmosphere to slowcore mellow tunes. They combine electronic landscapes, psychedelic driven melodies to form a perfect blend of post rock, krautrock, shoegaze and goth like gloomy tone.Lorealle Bishop's hypnotizing vocals just emphases the brooding, melodramatic, dark sadness of the music.
