Hookah The Fuzz biography
HOOKAH THE FUZZ where formed in 2005 in Birmingham, England, by guitarist/vocalist Simon Jefferies and drummer Ross Hawkins. After various incarnations the band solidified on a line up that included lead guitarist Alex Louis, bassist Roger Ash and keyboardist Adam Dodd. Birmingham and its surrounding region of the West Midlands is renowned for being the birth place of Heavy Metal with BLACK SABBATH, SLASH, LED ZEPPLIN, DEEP PURPLE and JUDAS PRIEST all sharing roots in the region and so its no surprise that HOOKAH THE FUZZ have drawn heavily on heavy music to join this culture and try to make as powerful a statement and impact as those legends of rock and metal did in the past.
Musically, HOOKAH THE FUZZ's sound draws most heavily on early-to-mid era METALLICA, most notably in the vocals, and combining it with the sound that DREAM THEATER perfected in the late 1990's whilst regularly showing their appreciation for FRANK ZAPPA's more jazzier music and even reggae and featuring lead guitar work that is reminicent of JOE SATRIANI. The result is a sound that, though is made up of easily recognisable parts, as a whole is difficult to pin down as sounding like any other band in particular. The bands self titled debut album was self-released in July 2010.
