Dakrya biography
DAKRYA was formed in July 2004 by Sophia X (Keys & Piano) in an attempt to express her own sound. Even though the initial intention was that of a project group, Costas L (Vocals) joined Sophia a few months later and the search for new members began. With a few songs already completed, Alex D (Bass) and Charis K (Drums) joined the band in February and April 2005 respectively. With the addition of Roula T. (Violin), Michael G. (Guitars), Mina (Vocals) and Helena (Vocals) shortly after the band entered the studio to record the first demo CD, which was completed in July 2005 but was not released at the time due to the bad production. The end of the recording session found Michael G., Mina & Helena leaving the band for personal reasons and George D (Lead & Rhythm Guitars) joining in September 2005. The next month DAKRYA recorded the CD single Without Destination with guest female vocals by Margina. November found Christina as the new lead singer of the band with Thomais joining a month later as a Classic Vocalist & Violin player.

The debut album Monumento came in the spring of 2008 through Another Sphere Records (France) and 279 Productions (Greece). Following good support from both the media and the Greek fans, DAKRYA started touring on a broader scale, supporting bands such as MOONSPELL. In 2009 the band worked on new material, focusing on its theatrical style, and in January 2010 they entered the studio with engineer George Bokos (Rotting Christ) to record their second album, Crime Scene. The mixing was done together with Pelle Saether (DIABLO SWING ORCHESTRA, DRACONIAN, MADDER MORTEN) in March 2010 and the mastering with Göran Finnberg (OPETH, DARK TRANQUILLITY, IN FLAMES, ARCH ENEMY). The promotion and release of Crime Scene was supported by Intromental Management and Sensory Records. 2010 finds them with the following line-up:

Christina Kalantzi - Vocals
Thomais Chatzigianni - Vocals
Alex Drake - Bass
Sophia X - Keyboards
Angelos Charogiannis - Guitars
George Droulias - Guitars & Vocals
Stavros Vorissis - Drums

The sound of DAKRYA is a mix of progressive metal with neoclassical, gothic, atmospheric and black metal influences, involving a range of vocals, from clean and operatic to brutal.
